Resource-use efficiency in US aquaculture: farm-level comparisons across fish species and production systems

چکیده

Understanding farm-level efficiencies of resource use is critical in comparisons the sustainability aquaculture production systems. We developed a set practical resource-use efficiency metrics to calculate and compare with resource-cost across major species systems US aquaculture. Results showed that no one system used all resources most efficiently. Intensive pond channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus demonstrated greatest water, energy, labor, management, capital resources, while RAS was efficient terms land feed use. Among wide array scenarios examined, more intensive generally were several metrics, but economic also depends upon business models effectively meet differing demand requirements customers. Thus, less economically sustainable areas relatively abundant water available at lower cost. Labor varied widely analyzed. Given increasing concerns related availability labor for farming USA, greater attention on farms warranted. The aligned common farm management tools (e.g. enterprise budgets) allow ease by researchers assess effects comparative new practices technologies under development.

Efficiency and Farm Size in Philippine Aquaculture. Analysis in a Ray Production Frontier Framework

We investigate the existence of an inverse relationship (IR) between farm size and technical efficiency in Philippine brackishwater pond aquaculture. The study is motivated by the exemption of fish ponds from the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Laws and suggestions in the literature of inefficient management of fish farms. The analysis of technical efficiency is based on the estimation of a multi...

Recirculating Aquaculture Tank Production Systems: Integrating Fish and Plant Culture

Recirculating aquaculture systems are designed to raise large quantities of fish in relatively small volumes of water by treating the water to remove toxic waste products and then reusing it. In the process of reusing the water many times, non-toxic nutrients and organic matter accumulate. These metabolic byproducts need not be wasted if they are channeled into secondary crops that have economi...

nteraction of nutrient resource and crop diversity on resource use efficiency in different cropping systems

introduction conventional operations in fields, soil and water management are not efficient and loss of and damage to the environment are considerable (lal, 2000). crop diversity and understanding the complex interactions between environmental and socioeconomic factors are approaches to make better use of limited resources (tengberg et al., 1998). the most diverse ecosystems have a higher produ...

interaction of nutrient resource and crop diversity on resource use efficiency in different cropping systems

introduction with the continuous growth of world population, degradation and ecological imbalance throughout the world, there is a need to increase agricultural production and environmental protection measures. in this respect, efforts to supply nutrients to the environment are at the head of the programs. one of the ways to approach this goal is the use of intercropping systems (najafi & moham...
